In 2005 the
Tulsa Rowing Club, along with the University of Tulsa, is
undertaking its largest fundraising campaign to date. Plans
are being made to create the best facilities for rowing training
in the Mid-America, if not the country. These plans
include:

Charles Boathouse Expansion
The Charles
Boathouse was dedicated in 1991 as Tulsa Rowing
Club’s central meeting space, for practice,
weight-training, and boat storage and repair. TRC’s
Juniors program and
the University
of Tulsa’s
nationally-ranked women’s rowing team have
exploded in the past two years, resulting in
limited space for more than a few individuals to
meet or train at any one time. The Expansion
fundraising goal of $300,000 includes:
a new bay
to allow for more boats, equipment, and a
fully-loaded trailer
a new
meeting room for film/video review, team
meetings, and Club gatherings.
An ergometer patio for
outdoor land workouts.

The goals of Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors include to:
Establish Tulsa, Oklahoma as
the home of one of the best junior rowing programs in
the country.
Create a scholarship fund to
support disadvantaged students and provide them with an
opportunity that they could not otherwise afford.
Provide a competitive
program that will put members of the TRC Juniors in good
standing for rowing scholarships at competitive colleges
and universities.
Fund a racing schedule that
allows TRC Juniors student athletes to travel across the country
and around the world to the most competitive regattas.
Develop potential athletes
for the U.S. Junior National Rowing Team.
As we begin our preparations for the 2005-2006
season our focus moves toward building better facilities and
equipment for the
program. These fundraising goals include:
·
Rowing machines and weight training equipment($5,000)– Especially in the winter months, indoor
training equipment allows the athletes to maintain their
current strength and endurance levels. Training all
winter long ensures that we will be competitive in the
regattas early next spring. The program requires five
new machines at a cost of $850 each.
·
New
racing shells and oars ($142,480)
– One year ago the team had about 10 athletes actively
participating in the program. The number of athletes now
stands at 30. In order to provide enough boats for our
rapidly expanding team, additional racing shells are
needed.

·
Accommodations for away races ($10,000)
– The team travels to many of its races and stays
overnight in order to be ready to race first thing in
the morning. Sponsorship from hotels will help cut
travel costs. The regattas on the schedule include the
following locations:
Topeka, KS - Wichita, KS -
Cincinnati, OH -
Dallas, TX -Boston, MA St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada
·
A
trailer and truck to transport the boats to away races
($35,000)–
In order
to compete at our different racing venues, it is critical to
transport TRC Juniors equipment. At this point, TRC Juniors has no
consistently reliable means to travel to away races. With
our own transportation, TRC Juniors will have the opportunity to
race in events not previously possible.
