Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors Win Regional Title and Qualify for National Youth Invitational

On Saturday May 9th, the Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors competed in the Central District Regional Championship Regatta held in Austin, TX. The Central District is composed of rowing teams from nearby states such as Kansas, Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma. By the end of the event the TRC Juniors had won two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals and had earned two invitations to the US Rowing National Championship Regatta next month.

“Our team had a terrific showing last weekend, and the results speak for themselves”, said Head Coach Neil Bergenroth.

The club won regional championship titles in the Women’s Junior Eight and the Women’s Novice Four. The women’s eight consisted of Rachel Ellinor (Holland Hall, Molly Schale (Holland Hall), Abby Jones (TSAS), Andrea Joyce (Holland Hall), Emily Carstens (Holland Hall), Courtaney Miller (Jenks), Molly McSweeney (TSAS), Madison Jones (BTW) and Anna Royce (Holland Hall).

“The women’s junior eight had a fantastic race. They shot off the start line in first place from stroke number one and never looked back. These young ladies have brought home a regional championship in this event for the first time and are a credit to the club and to the town of Tulsa”, said Coach Bergenroth. The crew will now to go work with four weeks of intense training in preparation for competition with the fastest girls crews in the country. “It’s an exciting challenge and one that I know we will be ready for”, added Bergenroth.

The Women’s Junior Novice four also took top honors, placing first in a challenging field of boats. The crew consisted of Caden Broussard (BTW), Hannah Landreth (Jenks), Emma Carter (Carver), Alysha Ledbetter (Grace Christian) and Anne Pennington (Cascia Hall).

In addition to the two gold medals places the Men’s Junior Eight - Aaron Charrier (TSAS), Andew Smith (Edison), Griffin Schulz(Augustine), Seth Bourdeau (Holland Hall), Brock Turner (CEA), Jeffrey Moseley (Holland Hall), Sam Berntson (Edison), Eric Klammer (Edison), Tamara Clayton (Grace) placed second. The Women’s Novice Eight placed second in very tight and exhilarating finish in their event. The crew for the Women’s Novice eight was Caden Broussard (BTW), Maggie Hegenbart (Cascia Hall), Anne Pennington (Cascia Hall), Rachel Denny (Cascia Hall), Alysha Ledbetter (Grace), Victoria Ford (Cascia Hall), Emma Carter (Carver), Lauren Griffith (CEA), Alex Mears (Cascia Hall)

“Austin is usually a tough program to beat, so I was pleased with such a strong finish. This bodes well for future women’s junior teams in Tulsa”, said Coach Bergenroth.

Third place finishes include the Men’s Junior Novice Four and the Women’s Varsity Four.

“It’s clear that the club has come a long way and our athletes rank among the best in the region. I’m confident that Tulsa Rowing Club can become an athletic national powerhouse in the sport of rowing very soon,” Said Coach Bergenroth.

The Tulsa Rowing Club will be offering summer camps for student athletes aged from 7th grade to 12th grade who want to experience the sport for the first time.
