Tulsa Teams to Attend Largest Rowing Event in the Country Oct. 18

Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors will send two crews to compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta

Tulsa, Okla. — The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors will send two high school teams to Boston Oct. 18 to compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta, the largest rowing event in the country.

The Girls Youth Four and the Boys Youth Four crews, made up of athletes from various Tulsa area high schools, will compete over a five-kilometer course that starts in downtown Boston on the historic Charles River. The annual race features 1,300 crews and is attended by 250,000 spectators along the shores.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the Tulsa club to go up against the best crews in the country and compete in an event with a great history of competition," said Neil Bergenroth, Tulsa Juniors head coach and a faculty member at Holland Hall.

The boys’ team competed last weekend in the Boot of the Oklahoma Regatta in Oklahoma City and won the silver medal in its event, missing out on the gold by only 0.7 seconds.

The following athletes will represent Tulsa in the Head of the Charles Regatta:

Alternate: John Carmichael (Bixby)
Coach: Neil Bergenroth
