There is nothing quite like the thrill of working hard to move a racing shell through the water with your friends. In Tulsa, OK this summer you can experience this feeling for yourself if you sign up for the Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors rowing camp.

The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors camp is open to all athletes ages 13-18. Some of the activities of the camp include water safety instruction, technique coaching in sweep rowing, sculling and coxing, endurance training and video analysis. Coaches certified and trained by US Rowing will instruct athletes at the camp. Rowers will learn how to handle boats and work together by developing teamwork among the rowing crews. The camp is aimed at beginners who want to get a start on their rowing careers and focus on the foundations of rowing. Come and develop a passion for rowing this summer!

All camp sessions will run Monday through Friday.
 
Camp Dates:

Camp I: June 23rd through July 3rd, 2008 
Camp II - August 11th - August 22nd, 2008

Cost: $200 for 2 weeks of instruction

Sessions in the camp take place from 6pm - 8pm in the evening (first camp) and 4:15pm to 6:15pm (August Camp)

Coaching:
 
The camp will be run by the Coaching Staff of Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors. There will also be guest coaches from the University if Tulsa and other programs
 

Neil Bergenroth – Head Coach Tulsa Juniors Rowing
 
The summer camp head coach is Neil Bergenroth (Coach B). Coach B started rowing 19 years ago in London, England as a student at Kingston Grammar School. At the age of 17 he represented Great Britain on the 1992 Junior National Team. He continued his athletic rowing career at Boston University competing at the NCAA Division I level for four years. Since graduating from college, Coach B has been involved with coaching juniors rowing for 10 years. Previous to moving to Tulsa he was assistant coach at a boarding school in Connecticut where he helped build the program at the school to be one of the premier rowing schools in New England. Coach B has been involved with the Tulsa Juniors Rowing program since the summer of 2002.

James Simmons - Assistant Coach Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors

Coach Simmons has been involved with Tulsa Rowing Club for over five years. Originally from Salt Lake he arrived in Tulsa 9 years ago. Not only is he an accomplished coach, but his mechanical skills are vital to the success of the Tulsa Juniors Rowing Program. Long after the athletes have left the boathouse he can be found fixing boats and maintaining the coaches launches. Coach Simmons is in his third year with Tulsa Juniors Rowing.

Alex Holter - Assistant Coach

Coach Alex Holter is in her third year as assistant coach of the TRC Jrs. As an undergraduate rower for the University of Tulsa. Originally hailing for Duluth, Minn, Coach Holter has been involved with rowing since starting as a junior in 1997. During her time as a Div I rower at the University of Tulsa, Alex was awarded the 1st Year Power Award as a Freshman while on the team. Assistant Coach - Kyle Peters

Coach Kyle Peters rowed for three years as a junior for Pacific Rowing Club and continued on to row for three more years for Seattle University. Coach Peters came to the program as part of the masters rowing program in July 2006, but was quickly recruited by the Tulsa Juniors as a coach.

The athletes of the Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors Team will also aid with instruction througout the week.

 

What: A summer rowing camp for all athletes ages 13 to 18.

When: There will be 2 camps on the schedule this year. June 23rd through July 3rd 2008 (6pm to 8pm) and August 11th - 22nd (4:15pm - 6:15pm)

Prerequisites
 
Before participating in a camp and using boathouse equipment rowers must complete the following:

1) Fill out and complete liability paperwork and permission to treat forms.

2) Complete a swim test at the local YMCA.

(Swim tests can be administered by a certified lifeguard. To fulfill the swimming requirement for the camp a participant must be able to swim 2 lengths of the pool and tread water for 5 minutes)
